THIS WEEK’S GUEST: BILL COOPER, MEDIA & POLITICS

Anyone notice a change in broadcast news coverage in the last ten to 20 years?

Media has always played an important role in Presidential politics, especially during election cycles. Never more, however, has it done so than since 2016 when GOP especially led candidates began incessant campaigns of disinformation, negative messaging, and advertising buys on radio and television.

One other change has happened, as well, when local stations were bought up by conglomerates with a conservative bent, who then went on to filter and skew authentic, fair and balanced news coverage. Same thing happened with remaining strong print media enterprises, all across the US.

We have asked BILL COOPER to join us for our next podcast, and who better than he from the perch of long-time on-air journalist to present (he began professionally in 1971) who has worked on radio, TV, through his social media presence, and as a General Manager for a teaching radio station in his home town of Portland, Oregon.

Mr. Cooper has seen it all. He will be able to educate us about how news used to be covered (ever heard of the Canons of Journalism?), how he dedicated his life to pursuit of the truth, when and how things morphed on the national landscape, and why, how we need to be extremely careful about how we ferret out current events to get accurate information, and make sure the lack of information (disinformation) we get does not turn us into political pawns for media lords with dark interests.

The stakes could not be higher, and we are so fortunate to have Mr. Cooper to help guide us through the contemporary news jungle.
